International Conference on Biospheric Harmony

Humans are exploiting the earth in an unsustainable manner which creates seemingly inherent conflict between conservation and human needs. Industry 4.0 in addition to climate change poses an imminent threat to the planet’s life-sustaining ecological systems, and it represents one of humanity’s most difficult challenges to date. Moreover, the advancement of technology has altered man’s relations with the biosphere.

As mentioned by Maria Loloni, "Industry 4.0 and climate change are an unusual pair, but they have obvious things in common: They’re systemic, they’re complex, and they’ll disrupt how we as a society conceive of value creation." (

Through this conference, we aim to promote the notion of “biospheric harmony” as a concept to capture our efforts for living in harmony with the environment in our human-dominated epoch, the anthropocene.

International Conference on Education, Learning and Assessment

The education system has changed significantly in the last few decades. The invention of Science and Technology, mainly Information and Communication Technology, has a great impact on the education, learning, and assessment.

Schools and universities around the world have to adjust themselves with these changes. The way students learn today are different from the way we learned years ago. Teachers assess differently now compared to our teachers in the past. All of these changes are very much influenced by the invention of internet and the existence of social media. Students learn not only from their teachers but also from many other resources. There is a paradigm shift in the education world.

Science and technology have changed how people live. The digital technology has influenced the way people think, learn, and make decisions. Technology has also changed jobs and lifestyles of people around the world. There are jobs which no longer exist in the next ten years. At the same time, new jobs occur which have never existed before. This phenomena must be responded by teachers and education practitioners in the world.

Indonesia, which has more than 250 million people, 714 tribes, 1100 dialects, 17000 islands, and 6 different religions, is preparing itself to move forward to the new world of digital era.

The digital era has affected almost every aspects of human’s lives. In the next upcoming years, perhaps there are no more things which are not digitalized.

In response to this, Binus University is going to hold an International Conference on Education, Learning, and Assessment (ICELA) with the theme: “Rethinking Global Education: A New Shift in Learning and Assessment” which will be held in Jakarta on 5-6 September, 2018.

International Conference on Business, International Relations and Diplomacy

The post-Cold War international relations have been much linked to the process of globalization. The massive trade liberalization agreement among states has resulted in the diminishing boundaries and the growing interconnectivity among states which in the end created a complex web of economic interdependence. International relations, in this sense, are the triumph of liberalists as economic cooperation sets more peaceful relations among states than the preceding era.

This, however, is only part of the story. Economic interdependence has limitation in explaining the persistence of conflicts in international relations. Besides, economy is only one aspect of globalization. Other aspect that is no less important, yet still underexplored is its geopolitical and technological aspect.

While many agreed that the digital and technology era has revolutionized human interaction, few have explored its significance for international relations. States are growingly dependent on information technology for running government, conducting diplomacy, and managing their economic and defense infrastructure. Business and individuals are dependent on IT for running their corporations and day to day communication. This has not mentioned civil society organizations that depend on IT for promoting democratization and human rights. At the same time, however, hostile states, terrorist groups, criminals, and hackers also use these facilities to conduct their activities. Information technology, in this sense, is the new battlefield in international relations that shapes the dynamics of peace and conflict between states, non-states, or between states and non-state actors.
