The rapid growth of information and communication technology has given support to the film industry. It creates a professional film worker's requirement without looking at a specific gender in a work field. Working in the film industry, especially as a screenwriter, has allowed women to voice gender equality. This paper aims to explore female characters' descriptions in the film written by female screenwriters in Indonesia. This research used a descriptive qualitative approach to get a detailed picture of the objectives. The methods used are interview, observation, and literature study. The result showed that female screenwriters could easily describe female characters in their writings. 'Women as protagonists has become an alternative to the patriarchal dominance in Indonesian films.
